This is a kind of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by way of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland -- it's the sort of book one doesn't want to end." -- Publisher's Weekly, Starred Review September is a girl who longs for adventure. When she is invited to Fairyland by a Green Wind and a Leopard, well, of course she accepts. (Mightn't you?) But Fairyland is in turmoil, and it will take one twelve-year-old girl, a book-loving dragon, and a strange and almost human boy named Saturday to vanquish an evil Marquess and restore order.

About the Author-
  • Catherynne M. Valente began September's adventures in installments on the Web; the project won legions of fans and also the CultureGeek Best Web Fiction of the Decade award. She lives with her husband on an island off the coast of Maine. She has written many novels for adults, but this is her children's book debut.
Reviews-
  • AudioFile Magazine The author's reading reflects her fondness for the world she has created. She welcomes listeners to Fairyland through the perspective of 12-year-old spunky September. Having been whisked from her boring Nebraska home by a flying leopard, she's charged with ridding this world of the tyrannical Marquess. She runs into inventive characters such as Wyveray, an offspring of a dragon and a library. Sensory details delight as, for example, September steps into a golden frothy bath "redolent of mint and forest nights, and sweet cakes and hot tea, and very cold starlight." A lyrical sentences style, references to classic fantasies, complicated psychology, and philosophical underpinnings may create the need for a second listen. S.W. (c) AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
